UPDATE: Solfleet

As I prepare to dive back into book two very soon…and finish it…I wanted to mention that a business partner and I  will soon be launching Omniverse Production, LLC. We will be producing and selling a variety of new serial comics and graphic novel titles–all digital at first, but we hope to expand into hardcopy print and perhaps more as we grow.

SOLFLEET will be one of our premier comic book properties. I have outlined more than a dozen novel-length stories that will primarily follow Dylan Graves from the beginning of his military career all the way up to where the novels take over, beginning with “The Call of Duty”. Although these stories will be presented in digital comic book format, I will be writing them on the same level as the novels.

We have not yet determined a date of release for the premier issue—there is still a lot of infrastructure to be built—but I will post an update when I know more. In the meantime, book two is on track to be completed this year.

UPDATE: Star Trek Soldiers of Pawns: “War and Peace”

I just finished chapter 27…again. As I posted earlier—only in Facebook if I remember correctly—when I finished it last week and sent it to Geoff, he replied with some ideas for new material to add to it. Those ideas were very good ones, so I agreed immediately to write in the new material. That’s the way the writing process goes sometimes. A writer (or in this case, writers) can work through several drafts and be nearly finished, and then suddenly have a great idea for new material. Some writers like to make a note and continue moving forward when that happens. I prefer to stop, go back and make the changes, and then continue forward. That is what Geoff and I did here, and we both agree that as a result, chapter 27 is much better than it was.

UPDATE: Star Trek Soldiers of Pawns: “War and Peace”

I just finished chapter 27. I think fans are going to be surprised by events in this chapter, and as I posted here earlier—or perhaps it was in facebook—space battles are difficult to write well in novel form. I posted yesterday that chapter 26 was the first in a string of chapters where Gary Mitchell is featured. That remains the case. Chapter 27 is a relatively short diversion. Chapter 28 will return to the situation that Gary Mitchell finds himself in.

UPDATE: Star Trek Soldiers of Pawns: “War and Peace”

I just finished chapter 26. This chapter adds a whole new level of intrigue, as if the story weren’t already teeming with mystery enough. It also begins a series of chapters in which Gary Mitchell is really allowed to shine. Geoff and I both love the character and believe that he deserves a lot more of the spotlight than he has ever been given. Other Star Trek authors have explored him in the past and have done a fine job with him, but we wanted to do the same in the context of our own Star Trek world. For me, writing Gary Mitchell has been every bit as much fun as writing James T. Kirk.

UPDATE: Star Trek Soldiers of Pawns: “War and Peace”

I have finished chapter 25. It has all been leading to this. Commander James T. Kirk’s visit to Earth has come to an end. Captain Christopher Pike’s Enterprise has been tasked to transport Kirk back to the Farragut—her first assignment under Pike’s second tour as her captain.

UPDATE: Star Trek Soldiers of Pawns: “War and Peace”

I finished chapter 24 today. James T. Kirk’s visit to Earth is over, and what a visit it has been. Reunions and good-byes, intrigue and revelations. For a chapter in which not a lot goes on, there sure is a lot going on.

UPDATE: Star Trek Phase-II: The Illustrated Adventures

UPDATE: Star Trek Soldiers of Pawns: “War and Peace”

I finished my second run through chapter 23 today. I am much happier with it now. Sometimes you just have to start over.

UPDATE: Star Trek Soldiers of Pawns: “War and Peace”

This post actually talks a little bit about my process for writing a novel, which is what I set out to do when I started this “play-by-play” chronicle of my writing process and have done with varying levels of success since. Yesterday I finished going through chapter 23, which continues the fast-paced action that started near the end of the previous chapter. The story also takes a major step forward in this chapter with the dropping of a great big bombshell right to someone’s face. However, when I finished the chapter, I realized that I was not completely happy with it. Read more
