The Call of Duty
The Tor'Kana Coalition – a body of independent worlds that have allied themselves with one another in a desperate struggle against the aggressive Veshtonn Empire. The war has raged for decades. As one of the major military powers, Earth has joined with her Coalition allies in a desperate struggle to defend the Rosha'Kana star system—home to the Tor'Kana themselves—against the Veshtonn onslaught.

During the battle, a group of Solfleet Marines make a discovery that rocks the very foundations of the United Earth Federation and Solfleet Central Command.

The enemy is advancing quickly, while the Coalition falters. Member worlds are falling, one after another. The fall of Earth herself is all but inevitable. The time for desperate measures is at hand.

One possible solution lies in an ancient and mysterious alien device known as a Portal—a Top Secret, ancient alien artifact that acts as a sort of doorway into Earth's past. The Earth Security Council believes that if a specific key event in history can be prevented from ever happening, then the ultimate outcome of the entire war can be changed in the Coalition's favor. Theoretically, at least.

But theories have a way of being wrong more often than they are right. With no way to accurately predict the ultimate results of such a mission with any certainty, Admiral Icarus Hansen, Chief of Solfleet Intelligence, a man haunted by actions he has been forced to take in the past, must decide whether or not to go forward with the mission anyway, knowing that whoever he sends might never be able to return home again.
